Rye's Unsavory Past

In case this turns out too small to read, it is a Rudyard Kipling poem colled A Smuggler's Song. Apparently, at one time Rye was a major port for smugglers. The port silted over and the town shrank in importance. Stanley and I had recently listened to a book on tape, Daphne DuMaurier's Jamaica Inn which was about port smugglers, and this poem, posted in the town, brought the novel to life.
